Musanze: Gaps in Service Delivery Persist at Kabere Health Center

Residents seeking medical services at Kabere Health Center have raised concerns about inadequate service delivery, primarily due to a shortage of healthcare workers.

Key issues highlighted include challenges in maternity services, where there is only one nurse assigned to the maternity ward, raising fears about the quality and safety of care for expectant mothers.

Speaking to Teradignews, Anonthiata Mukeshimana acknowledged the center’s progress but emphasized the pressing need to address existing gaps.
“There are significant improvements to celebrate, such as modern buildings replacing the old, unsafe structures, access to clean water, and a clean environment. However, these advancements are overshadowed by the shortage of medical staff to provide adequate care.”

Jean D’Amascene Niyoyita echoed similar sentiments, praising President Paul Kagame for the upgraded health center but stressing the urgent need for more staff and infrastructure improvements.
“We’re grateful to President Kagame for this modern facility, but we appeal for additional nurses to enhance service delivery. The poor condition of the Kamakara-Kabere-Muko road also poses a major challenge. Emergency vehicles like ambulances often struggle to reach the health center on time, which could be life-threatening, especially for pregnant women.”

Musanze District Mayor, Claudien Nsengimana, assured residents that the issues are being addressed.
“We are in discussions with the Ministry of Health (MINISANTE) to address the staffing shortages at Kabere Health Center. The matter has been formally documented, and we are awaiting action.”

On the road infrastructure, Nsengimana added:
“The road’s poor condition has been noted, as it accelerates the wear and tear of our ambulances and other vehicles. We have already requested assistance from the Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA) to rehabilitate the road.”

Kabere Health Center, located in Muko Sector, is one of the most modern facilities in Musanze District. Residents believe that addressing these challenges will elevate it to one of the best-performing health centers in the region.
