FARDC Strengthens Military Presence in Kivu to Address Security Challenges

The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) have initiated changes in the Uvira Territory, located in the Kivu province, as part of efforts to address security challenges.

On the 24th of November 2023, a delegation led by high-ranking military officials, including GenTango Fort Amisi Kumba from Tanganyika Province and Brigadier General Andre Oketi Ohenzo from Minembwe, arrived in Uvira Territory.

This delegation is reportedly set to bring about transformations in the area, particularly in response to ongoing security concerns. There are indications that a military leader overseeing operations may be replaced, with rumors suggesting that the outgoing officer will face consequences related to conflicts in the Kaholoro locality within the expansive Rurambo region.

Additional developments include the reassignment of Gen Andre Oketi Ohenzo, who formerly led the 12th Brigade based in Minembwe, to take on a role in the Uvira Territory. Simultaneously, other senior military figures in Uvira are said to be undergoing training following recent upheavals.

On the 25th of November 2023, the delegation, headed by Gen Tango Fort, is expected to unveil its mission and objectives in Uvira Territory.
