Clashes Intensify Between M23 and Wazalendo in Nyiragongo and South Kivu
14 Wazalendo fighters under the command of Col. Janvier were captured in Rugali, Nyiragongo Territory, while on their way to attack M23 positions.
A source from Rwandatribune in the area reported that there was a shootout on Saturday, 14/09/2024, between M.P.A fighters and M23 in the Rugali area.
Additionally, M23 continues to pursue FPP and Rud Urunana fighters suspected of kidnapping a Kenyan driver.
Currently, heavy fighting is reported in the areas of Nyamirima and Nyamitwitwi, where it’s suspected that the Kenyan driver is being hidden as a bargaining chip.
Furthermore, Rwandatribune has learned that five FPP fighters were killed in this battle.
In South Kivu, residents of Numbi are pleading with M23 to stop the looting being carried out by Wazalendo fighters.
These residents accuse the armed groups of stealing livestock, crops, and money from the local population.
In the Kalehe area, the Burundian government has deployed six battalions in preparation to launch attacks on M23 rebels in Masisi.
