Update: Amahoro Stadium’s Transformation and Technological Advancements
Amahoro Stadium is undergoing significant renovations, and the current progress is noteworthy. The focus now is on incorporating cutting-edge features using advanced technology.
For those utilizing electronic platforms, it’s essential to stay tuned to announcements on the electronic boards during this Friday, the 24th of November 2023. These LED display boards, prominently featuring the “Visit Rwanda” campaign, demonstrate a technological boost within Amahoro Stadium.
The enhancements extend to both the lower and upper sections, providing spectators with an enriched experience, especially for those attending European football matches.
The stadium is nearing completion for its grand reopening, accommodating various events and maintaining a modern look.
Regarding the incorporation of turf, the ongoing installation suggests a hybrid system, with reports indicating potential completion reaching up to 80% by this December, surpassing the previously stated 70% achievement in October.
In 2022, the stadium, initially designed for a capacity of 25,000, expanded its capacity to host up to 45,000, thanks to the involvement of the Turkish construction company, SUMMA.
The plan is for the grand unveiling in May 2024, coinciding with hosting matches of the prestigious FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Rwanda.
The elevated status of the stadium will extend beyond its physical boundaries, complying with FIFA regulations to ensure optimal sunlight exposure. It will also accommodate various sports, including rugby.
This comprehensive project includes the renovation of other venues like Petit Stade and Paralympique, contributing to Rwanda’s global sporting facilities. These arenas, alongside the Kigali Arena, signify a significant step forward for sports infrastructure in Rwanda.
